Ectropion correction


Ectropion is a condition in which the lower eyelid is no longer on the eyeball but is rotated outward at a distance from it. Ectropion can have different reasons such as:

Loosening the annular muscle around the eye

Facial nerve palsy (motor nerve of facial muscles)

Lower eyelid injury and wound tissue

Excessive skin removal during

eyelid surgery It causes dryness, redness, and even burning when the eye is left half-open. Since tears are responsible for preventing dry eyes and disinfecting, can not do their main job well with the gravity guidance due to the eyelid opening.

The patient has to constantly wipe his tears off his cheeks, which is also very annoying.

Ectropion correction

By canthopexy surgery, this lesion can be treated. The suture line will be very imperceptible like eyelid surgery.

Canthopexy Risks:

The hidden risks in canthopexy surgery are low, provided that the surgery is performed by a plastic surgeon or an ophthalmologist with an oculoplastic fellowship who has sufficient experience.

The risks of canthopexy include the following:

Hematoma, swelling, and colloidal scars. Temporary dry eyes and blurred vision.

Preoperative recommendations:

Visit your ophthalmologist for an examination before surgery and tell your surgeon if you have any illnesses. 

The use of drugs that have anticoagulant properties should be discontinued by consulting the physician at least 14 days before the surgery date.

Minimize nicotine and alcohol consumption 4 weeks before the surgery date

Be sure to tell your surgeon if you have any allergies or illnesses.

Be sure to tell your surgeon if you get bruises quickly after a small blow.

Avoid makeup on the surgery day and bring your sunglasses.

Postoperative recommendations:

The eyelids will be swollen and bruised immediately after surgery.   Use a cold compress for faster recovery and sleep in a semi-sitting position.

Avoid painkillers with anticoagulant properties. 

Use clean gas and eyewash solution to rinse the eyes. 

After the operation, the eyes may not be completely closed due to swelling for a short time and the swelling will disappear. Otherwise, visit your surgeon.

The suture is usually pulled out after 5-7 days.

Avoid rubbing your eyes in the first few weeks after surgery.

You can use cosmetics 3 days after pulling out sutures. 

You can use your lens when it is no longer painful.
